Frequently Asked Questions
-
The IF4 MultiWave is generally considered safe for most people. Do not use our device if you have a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, or other implanted metallic or electronic device, because this may cause electric shock, burns, or electrical interference.
-
No, with proper use, the device cannot shock you. To avoid the feeling of being ‘zapped’ by the electricity, we recommend starting treatment at a low level and gently increasing strength until the desired sensation is reached.
-
No, if you have an active Worker’s Compensation claim, your insurance covers 100% of the cost. You will not be balance billed by Keystone Rehab Products for charges your insurance does not cover.
-
You can wear your device during most normal daily activities. We recommend trying the first few treatments while you are relaxing, such as watching TV, reading, etc. Once you are used to the treatment, you can start to incorporate it into your routine and wear it according to your physician’s instructions. Patients use the device during work, while cooking, visiting with family, during moderate physical activity such as walking, etc.
Do not get the device or electrodes wet. Avoid putting the device on before going to sleep, as the wires can get tangled and the electrodes may fall off. If you do happen to fall asleep during treatment, it’s OK. The device automatically shuts off after the desired length of treatment (usually 15-30 minutes.)
-
Use the device according to your physician’s recommendations. Acute and chronic pain/injuries respond best to daily treatments. The device can be used as needed. Exceeding four treatments a day on the same body part is discouraged.
-
Interferential therapy has very few side effects. Patients may experience achey, sore muscles or other painful sensations if stimulation is done too strong, too long, or too many times per day. In severe cases, contact your healthcare provider or Keystone Rehab Products independent representative for further assistance.
Your skin may become irritated, or in severe cases, burned, by electrode use. If irritation occurs, take the electrode off, wash the area with gentle soap and water, and wait a few minutes before continuing treatment. If excessive irritation continues, please contact us for more solutions. We offer specialty products for sensitive skin.
-
Treatment is most effective when electrodes are placed surrounding the pain, due to the nature of the electric circuits. Electrical stimulation works best when the electrodes are placed over muscle tissue. Avoid placing electrodes over bones. Do not place your electrodes on any part of your head and face, front of your throat, directly over the heart, or on broken or irritated skin. Contact your healthcare provider or Keystone Rehab Products independent representative for more guidance on electrode placement.
-
When electrodes start to lose their adhesive quality, you can temporarily reactivate them by lightly misting them with water. Be sure to only place the electrodes on clean, dry, undamaged skin. If the electrode continues to fall off, it may be time to replace it. Electrodes have a life expectancy of about 2 weeks, but this may vary depending on the frequency of treatments.
